Clinical Lead Speech & Language Therapist | Specialist SEN School | Brent, North West London
NHS Band 7 Outer London | Permanent | Full Time | Term Time Only
What if your clinical expertise could influence an entire school — not just individual pupils?
For children and young people with complex SEND, communication can be the difference between feeling frustrated and being understood, between being dependent and becoming more independent, and between simply accessing education and genuinely being included.
This specialist SEN school in Brent is looking for an experienced Speech & Language Therapist to take on a Clinical Lead position within its established multidisciplinary therapy team.
If you're an experienced Band 7 SALT — or an ambitious Band 6 therapist ready for your next step — this could be an opportunity to combine hands-on clinical work with meaningful leadership.
The School
This is a specialist setting supporting children and young people aged 3–19 with a broad range of complex needs, including autism, severe and profound learning difficulties, Down's syndrome, complex medical needs, and speech, language and communication difficulties.
Therapy is an integral part of the school's approach rather than something delivered separately from education.
You will work alongside Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistants, and Creative Arts Therapists, with professionals working collaboratively around the individual needs of each pupil.
The school places significant value on communication, independence and quality of life, giving therapists the opportunity to influence how communication strategies are embedded throughout the wider school environment.
The Role
As Clinical Lead Speech & Language Therapist, you will maintain a specialist clinical caseload while taking a leading role in developing Speech & Language Therapy provision across the school.
You'll have the opportunity to use your clinical expertise to support pupils directly, while also developing colleagues, contributing to service development and helping education staff understand and implement effective communication approaches.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Providing specialist assessment, diagnosis and intervention for pupils with complex communication and SEND needs
-
Leading on dysphagia assessment and management, including safe eating and drinking practices
-
Developing individualised communication programmes and evidence-based interventions
-
Contributing to EHCP assessments, annual reviews and professional reports
-
Working closely with teaching staff to embed communication strategies throughout the school day
-
Providing clinical supervision, guidance and mentorship to junior therapists
-
Supporting the development of Speech & Language Therapy practice across the school
-
Contributing to service development, clinical governance and continuous improvement
-
Working as part of the wider MDT to provide coordinated, holistic support for pupils and their families
This isn't simply a role where you'll deliver therapy sessions and move on to the next pupil.
You'll have the opportunity to shape clinical practice, develop colleagues and influence the way communication is supported across the whole school.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced Speech & Language Therapist who is confident working with children and young people with complex needs and is ready to take on a senior clinical leadership position.
You may already be working at Band 7 level, or you could be an experienced Band 6 SALT looking for the right opportunity to progress.
You'll ideally have:
-
HCPC registration as a Speech & Language Therapist
-
Experience working at Band 6 or Band 7 level
-
Experience within paediatrics, specialist education, SEN or complex needs
-
Strong clinical experience in dysphagia assessment and management
-
Experience contributing to EHCPs, annual reviews and multidisciplinary planning
-
Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making skills
-
Experience supporting, supervising or mentoring junior clinicians
-
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-
A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND
What You'll Receive
-
NHS Band 7 Outer London salary
-
Permanent, full-time position
-
Term time only working
-
Established multidisciplinary therapy team
-
Specialist SEN environment
-
Opportunities for CPD and ongoing professional development
-
Scope to lead service development and clinical initiatives
-
Supportive leadership and a collaborative working culture
-
The opportunity to make a genuine difference to pupils, families and colleagues
Why Apply?
This is a chance to take your Speech & Language Therapy career beyond the traditional clinical caseload.
You'll still have the opportunity to work directly with pupils and use your specialist clinical skills, but you'll also have the platform to lead, mentor, influence and improve communication practice across an entire specialist school.
For pupils with complex communication needs, the ability to express a choice, communicate a need, build a relationship or participate in learning can have a profound impact on their everyday lives.
Your expertise can help make that possible.
If you're an experienced SALT looking for a senior role where your clinical judgement is valued and your influence can extend beyond the therapy room, apply today or contact Daniel at Parker Smith Inclusion for more information.
