Learning Support Assistant – Specialist SEND School
Location: Havering
Pay: £95 per day PAYE
Contract: Temporary to Permanent after 12 weeks
Start Date: ASAP
We are currently seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Havering.
The school provides support for pupils with complex additional needs and is looking for a caring, patient and dependable individual who can provide consistent support throughout the school day.

About the Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to help pupils access learning, activities and daily routines.
Your responsibilities will vary depending on each pupil's individual needs and may include:
- Supporting pupils with learning and communication
- Encouraging social interaction and positive relationships
- Helping pupils develop confidence and independence
- Supporting pupils with daily routines and activities
- Providing calm and consistent support when pupils become overwhelmed or dysregulated
- Helping pupils manage challenging situations in a positive and supportive manner
- Providing personal care, including support with personal hygiene and other daily needs
Personal care is an important aspect of this position. You must be comfortable supporting pupils with these needs while always maintaining their dignity, privacy and independence.
What We're Looking For
Previous experience working in a specialist SEND school is not essential. Experience within education, care or support work would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in individuals who have the right attitude, patience and willingness to learn.
You may have previously worked as a:
- Teaching Assistant
- Learning Support Assistant
- Support Worker
- Residential Support Worker
- Community Support Worker
- Care or education professional supporting individuals with additional needs
We are looking for someone who is:
- Patient, calm and compassionate
- Reliable and consistent
- Comfortable supporting children with complex needs
- Able to build positive and trusting relationships
- Comfortable providing personal care when required
- Able to remain calm and supportive during challenging situations
- Willing to learn and take direction from experienced staff
- Resilient and committed to supporting pupils throughout the school day
The role can be challenging at times, so patience, consistency and resilience are important. You will be supported by an experienced school team and will receive guidance as you develop your skills.
