Learning Support Assistant – Specialist SEND School
Havering | £95 per day PAYE | Temp to Perm after 12 weeks | September 2026
We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Havering from September 2026.
The school supports pupils with complex additional needs, and this role would suit someone who is patient, calm and comfortable working closely with children who may need a high level of support throughout the school day.
The role
You will work alongside teachers and other support staff to help pupils take part in lessons, activities and the wider school day.
Your role will be different depending on the needs of the pupils you are supporting. You may help with communication, learning, social interaction and developing independence, as well as providing support when a pupil becomes overwhelmed or dysregulated.
Personal care is also part of the role. This can include supporting pupils with their personal hygiene and other day-to-day care needs.
It is important that you are comfortable with this side of the job and can provide care in a way that protects each pupil's dignity, privacy and independence.
Who we're looking for
You don't necessarily need previous experience in a specialist SEND school. Experience in a school, care or support setting would be useful, but the right attitude is just as important.
You may have worked as:
- A Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant
- A support worker in a care or residential setting
- A community support worker
- Someone who has supported people with additional needs in another setting
We're looking for someone who is:
- Patient and calm
- Caring and reliable
- Comfortable working with children who have complex needs
- Able to build trusting relationships
- Willing to support with personal care
- Able to remain calm when situations become challenging
- Open to learning and taking guidance from experienced staff
The role can be demanding, so resilience and consistency are important. You won't be expected to know everything from the start, but you will need to be willing to get involved and learn.
The school
The school is purpose-built for pupils with SEND and has specialist classrooms, sensory spaces and adapted facilities.
You'll be working alongside an experienced team who understand that pupils develop at different rates and that progress can look different from one child to another.
