Learning Support Assistant, Specialist SEND School

Location: Havering
Pay: £95 per day PAYE
Contract: Temp to perm after 12 weeks
Start Date: September 2026

We are currently recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Havering from September 2026.

The school supports pupils with complex additional needs and is looking for someone who is patient, reliable and comfortable providing consistent support throughout the school day.

This is an opportunity to work closely with pupils and gain valuable experience within a specialist SEND environment.

The Role

You will work alongside teachers and support staff to help pupils engage with lessons, activities and daily routines.

The support you provide will depend on the individual needs of the pupils. This may include helping with communication, learning, social interaction and developing independence.

You may also support pupils when they become overwhelmed or dysregulated, helping them to manage difficult situations in a calm and supportive way.

Personal care is an important part of the role. This can include supporting pupils with personal hygiene and other daily care needs.

You must be comfortable providing this support while maintaining each pupil's dignity, privacy and independence at all times.

About You

Previous experience within a specialist SEND school is not essential. Experience in a school, care or support environment would be beneficial, but attitude and willingness to learn are equally important.

You may have experience as a:

• Teaching Assistant
• Learning Support Assistant
• Support Worker
• Residential Support Worker
• Community Support Worker
• Care or education professional supporting individuals with additional needs

We are looking for someone who is:

• Patient and calm
• Caring and reliable
• Comfortable supporting children with complex needs
• Able to build positive and trusting relationships
• Willing to provide personal care when required
• Able to remain calm during challenging situations
• Open to learning and taking guidance from experienced staff

The role can be demanding, so consistency and resilience are important. You will receive support from the school team and will not be expected to know everything from the beginning. However, you should be willing to get involved, learn and develop your skills.

The school is purpose built for pupils with SEND and provides specialist classrooms, sensory spaces and adapted facilities.

You will be part of an experienced team who understand that every pupil is different and that progress can look different for each child.
