Specific Learning Difficulties Teacher
South East London | Full-Time | Permanent Opportunity
M2 - M3 Inner London Pay Scale

As a teacher, you want to make a difference. Not the kind of difference measured only through test scores and data, but the kind that comes from helping a child communicate for the first time, build independence, develop confidence, or achieve a goal that once felt out of reach.

This specialist school supports children and young people with Severe Learning Difficulties, profound communication needs, and a range of additional complexities. It is a nurturing, highly personalised environment where every aspect of learning is tailored to the individual needs of the pupils.

The school itself is calm, welcoming, and purpose-built around its students. Staff work closely together, celebrating every success and supporting one another through the challenges. Leadership is visible, approachable, and genuinely invested in both pupil outcomes and staff wellbeing.

What Does a Good Day Look Like?

A student who has struggled to engage joins a sensory activity and remains focused for longer than ever before.

A pupil uses a communication aid to make a choice independently.

A child who finds transitions difficult manages their day successfully with your support.

The wins may look different to those in mainstream education, but they are no less significant.

What About the Challenging Days?

There will be moments when lessons don't go to plan.

Students may become dysregulated, communication barriers can lead to frustration, and progress can sometimes feel slower than you hoped.

However, you will never face these challenges alone. You'll be supported by experienced Teaching Assistants, therapists, senior leaders, and a team that understands that patience, consistency, and teamwork are the foundations of success in specialist education.

The Role

As an SLD Teacher, you will deliver highly personalised learning to a small class of pupils with complex learning needs. You will work closely with support staff, therapists, and families to create engaging learning opportunities that develop communication, independence, life skills, and academic progress.

We're looking for a teacher who is adaptable, compassionate, and committed to helping every child achieve their potential.

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Holds QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification

  • Has experience within SEND, specialist education, or a strong interest in developing within this field

  • Understands the importance of personalised and holistic learning

  • Builds positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues

  • Is patient, resilient, and reflective in their practice
