Not every Teaching Assistant role is the same.
Some roles are about worksheets and classroom support.
This one is about changing a child’s world.
We are supporting a specialist SEND school in Havering that works with pupils who have complex learning needs, autism, sensory differences and medical needs. Many pupils communicate in different ways and progress can look very different here. Sometimes it is a new sound, a moment of connection, or a child feeling safe enough to engage.
This school is looking for calm, compassionate and resilient people who want to build a career supporting children with complex needs.
What the role looks like day to day
Supporting pupils one to one or in small groups
Helping children engage with learning through sensory activities, communication and structured routines
Supporting personal care when required
Helping pupils regulate emotions and behaviours in a safe and trauma informed way
Working closely with teachers, therapists and specialist staff
This role can be challenging, but it is also incredibly rewarding. The team are experienced and supportive and you will never be left to manage difficult situations alone.
Who this role could suit
You may already have experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant, or you may come from a background in:
Care or support work
Youth work
Residential support
Mental health support
Psychology or SEND related study
Most importantly, you are patient, emotionally resilient and genuinely motivated to support children with complex needs.
