Complex Needs Teaching Assistant  - Mainstream Primary School

September 2026

Enfield, North London

£100 - £110 PAYE per day, weekly payment

Some children communicate through words. Others communicate through behaviour, movement, facial expressions, or the smallest changes in routine. Do you notice those moments? Do you understand that communication looks different for every child?

If you do, this role deserves your attention.

This is an opportunity to join a large, well-established primary school in Enfield with a highly inclusive ethos and a significant number of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Many children have EHCPs, and the school has developed an experienced and knowledgeable team to ensure every pupil receives the support they need to thrive.

You will be supporting pupils across the primary age range with a variety of additional needs, including ASC, speech, language and communication needs, ADHD, social, SEMH, moderate learning difficulties, and complex developmental needs. Some pupils are non-verbal or have limited verbal communication, and many benefit from visual supports, structured routines, sensory strategies, and alternative communication methods.

What the role involves:

  • Providing classroom support for pupils with a range of SEND, including those with EHCPs
  • Supporting children with Autism, communication needs, sensory processing differences, and learning difficulties
  • Using visual timetables, sensory strategies, and communication approaches to support learning and regulation
  • Delivering personal care where required with dignity and respect
  • Working closely with class teachers, the SEND team, therapists, and outside agencies
  • Recording observations and contributing to pupil progress and review meetings
  • Helping pupils develop independence, confidence, and positive relationships throughout the school day

Previous school experience is not essential. What matters most is your ability to build positive relationships with children, remain calm under pressure, and genuinely enjoy supporting pupils with additional needs. Candidates from care, residential support, youth work, nursery settings, healthcare, or community support roles are all encouraged to apply.
