Learning Support Assistant – Specialist SEND School

Havering | £95 per day (PAYE) | Temp to Perm after 12 Weeks | September 2026 Start

What if your job could make a difference that you could actually see?

We're working with a specialist SEND school in Havering that is looking for a warm, patient and genuinely caring Learning Support Assistant to join their team from September.

This is the kind of role where the small moments matter.

A child communicating something for the first time. A pupil managing something that previously felt overwhelming. A new skill being mastered after weeks of encouragement.

You won't always see huge changes overnight — but you'll be there for the moments that matter, helping pupils take those important steps forward.

This is more than classroom support.

You'll be working closely with pupils with complex additional needs, supporting them throughout the school day and helping them feel safe, understood and ready to learn.

That might mean helping with activities in the classroom, supporting communication and independence, encouraging positive interactions or simply being the calm, reassuring person a pupil needs when things become difficult.

It's a rewarding environment, but we also want to be upfront about the realities of the role.

Personal care is part of the position, as is supporting pupils during periods of dysregulation. These aren't separate from the role — they're an important part of helping each child feel safe and supported.

You'll need to be comfortable getting involved while always maintaining a pupil's dignity, privacy and independence.

You don't need specialist school experience.

What matters most is who you are and how you approach people.

Perhaps you already work in:

  • A mainstream school as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant.
  • A care or support setting and are ready for a new challenge.
  • A residential or community support role.
  • A role where you've developed patience, resilience and strong relationship-building skills.

You may even have personal experience supporting someone with additional needs.

Whatever your background, if you're compassionate, dependable and willing to learn, this could be an opportunity worth exploring.

A school designed around its pupils

The school has been purpose-built to support children with SEND, with specialist classrooms, sensory spaces, adapted facilities and experienced staff all working together to create the right environment for pupils to thrive.

You'll also be joining a team that understands that progress doesn't always look the same for every child — and that sometimes the smallest steps are the biggest achievements.

What you'll receive

  • £95 per day PAYE
  • Temp-to-perm opportunity after 12 weeks
  • A September 2026 start
  • Support from an experienced and welcoming team
  • The opportunity to develop your experience within specialist SEND education
  • A role where you can genuinely see the impact of your work

Could this be the role for you?

This isn't necessarily the easiest job you'll ever do.

It can be challenging. It can be unpredictable. And some days will test your patience and resilience.

But if you're the kind of person who finds meaning in helping someone achieve something they once thought was impossible, you could be exactly the person this school is looking for.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
