Complex Needs Teaching Assistant - SEND School | Barnet

Barnet, North London | £95–£100 per day | Full-time only | Monday–Friday

Some pupils need highly individual support throughout the school day.

They may communicate non-verbally, need help with mobility or personal care, require sensory support, or need an adult who can recognise small changes in behaviour, comfort and communication.

Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting a full-time Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist SEND setting in Barnet.

This role would suit someone with experience supporting children, young people or adults with complex needs, PMLD, SLD, autism, physical disabilities or communication needs.

What could your day involve?

You may be supporting pupils who require a high level of individualised care and learning support.

Your responsibilities could include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support

  • Supporting pupils with complex learning and communication needs

  • Encouraging independence wherever possible

  • Supporting sensory-based activities and learning

  • Helping pupils access lessons and wider school activities

  • Supporting mobility and physical needs where required

  • Assisting with personal care where appropriate

  • Working closely with teachers and other SEND professionals

  • Observing and responding to individual communication cues

  • Helping create a calm, safe and consistent environment

Who are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Able to commit to full-time, Monday–Friday work

  • Patient, reliable and compassionate

  • Comfortable providing close individual support

  • Strong communication skills

  • A respectful and dignified approach to personal care where required

  • Genuine interest in working with pupils with complex SEND

Desirable:

  • Experience with PMLD or SLD

  • Complex needs experience

  • Autism experience

  • Personal care experience

  • Previous work as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker or Care Assistant

  • Experience using communication or sensory approaches

What makes this work meaningful?

Progress with complex needs is often highly individual.

It might be a pupil making a choice independently.

It might be increased eye contact, a new communication response, greater tolerance of an activity or improved confidence during a transition.

These changes can look small from the outside, but they can represent significant progress for the pupil.

You will be part of helping that progress happen.
