Full-time | Monday to Friday
£95–£110 per day, depending on experience
Long-term position

Parker Smith Inclusion is working with a specialist SEND setting in Camden looking for a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join their team on a long-term basis.

The pupils you will support have a range of additional needs and may require a highly individualised approach to learning, communication and day-to-day support. This is a role for someone who is patient, dependable and comfortable working closely with pupils who need consistent adult support throughout the school day.

It would suit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Support Worker looking to build or continue their experience within specialist education.

The role

You will work alongside teachers and other support staff to help pupils access learning, communicate effectively and participate as independently as possible in school life.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with complex learning needs

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group classroom support

  • Helping pupils engage with adapted learning activities

  • Supporting communication using individualised strategies

  • Encouraging independence with everyday routines

  • Supporting pupils with sensory and emotional regulation needs

  • Working closely with teachers and other professionals

  • Following individual support plans and established routines

  • Helping create a calm, safe and structured learning environment

Depending on the pupils you are working with, the role may also involve providing appropriate personal care and physical support.

Who are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach

  • Strong communication skills

  • Confidence following structured support plans

  • Reliability and consistency

  • Availability for a full-time, long-term position

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD, autism or complex needs

  • Previous special school experience

  • Experience with personal care

  • Knowledge of communication systems or sensory support

  • Experience working alongside therapists or multidisciplinary teams

Why this role could suit you

Complex needs support is highly relationship-led. Progress can sometimes be measured in small but important steps, whether that is improved communication, greater independence, increased engagement or simply a pupil feeling more secure in their school environment.

For the right person, that makes this work particularly rewarding.

You will also gain valuable specialist SEND experience and work closely with experienced teachers and support professionals, making this a strong option for anyone looking to develop a long-term career in special education.
