Complex Needs Teaching Assistant - SEN - Southwark

£95 - £105 PAYE per day

Permanent contract opportunity

September start

As a Healthcare Assistant, you already know how to read a person who cannot tell you what they need in words.

You already know what it takes to stay patient through the same routine, done properly, every single day, because that routine is what someone else relies on to feel safe.

This special school in South East London supports pupils aged 11 to 19 with severe and profound learning difficulties, autism, and complex, often non-verbal communication needs. No teaching background is required here. What matters is that you can support someone's physical needs calmly and consistently, and that you notice the small things most people miss.

Classes are small and adult-to-pupil ratios are high, so you get to know the pupils you support properly, rather than moving quickly between people. New starters are given real time to learn the role, and staff who come from care backgrounds tend to settle in fast because so much of the work is already familiar to them.

What you will be doing

  • Supporting pupils with personal care and physical needs throughout the school day
  • Assisting with water-based sensory activities as part of the daily provision
  • Reading non-verbal cues, body language, and behaviour as communication
  • Supporting pupils to use AAC and personalised communication systems
  • Working closely alongside class teachers and specialist staff who know the same pupils you do

Pay and hours

  • £95 to £105 PAYE per day, paid weekly
  • Full-time, term time only, 8:30am to 4pm
  • Long-term contract with a route to permanent

Start date

September 2026. Interviews are being arranged now, so early applications will have the advantage.

If you have worked as a Healthcare Assistant, a Care Assistant, or in a similar hands-on care role, your experience already covers most of what this role needs. We will support you with the rest.
