About the role

Every child has their own way of communicating, learning and making progress.

For some pupils, having the right adult alongside them can make all the difference.

A specialist primary setting in Watford is looking for a caring and resilient Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated classroom supporting pupils in Years 2 and 3.

You’ll provide consistent, individualised support to children with Autism, communication difficulties and significant additional needs, helping them feel safe, engaged and able to take part in school life.

The setting

You’ll work within a dedicated complex needs classroom in a supportive primary school environment.

The pupils have a range of significant SEND needs, including Autism and communication difficulties. Some pupils are non-speaking, while others require support with personal and intimate care.

The focus is on creating a structured environment where pupils can develop their communication, independence and confidence at their own pace.

The role

As a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support

• Support pupils with Autism and complex SEND

• Help pupils develop communication and interaction skills

• Support non-speaking pupils to communicate and engage

• Encourage participation in classroom activities

• Provide personal and intimate care where required

• Follow individual education, care and support plans

• Support emotional regulation and wellbeing

• Encourage independence in everyday activities

• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils

• Work closely with the class teacher and wider inclusion team

Who we are looking for

This role would suit someone who is caring, patient and confident working with children who have significant additional needs.

Previous experience with Autism, complex SEND, communication needs or personal care would be beneficial, but the right attitude and approach are equally important.
