Construction Tutor – SEN Learners

North London

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Construction Tutor to deliver high-quality vocational training to learners with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and mild learning difficulties. You will plan and deliver engaging, practical sessions that support learners in developing construction skills, gaining qualifications, and progressing into apprenticeships or employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess construction theory and practical sessions for small groups of SEN learners.

  • Adapt lessons and materials to support a range of learning needs, abilities, and EHCP targets.

  • Create a safe and inclusive workshop environment with a strong focus on health and safety.

  • Support learners with employability skills and help them develop confidence, resilience, and independence.

  • Manage behaviour effectively and build strong, positive relationships with students.

  • Track progress, complete assessments, and contribute to learner reports.

  • Work closely with the SEN, safeguarding, and curriculum teams to ensure effective support.

Ideal Candidate

  • Background in construction, carpentry, multi-trades, or a related vocational area.

  • Experience teaching or training young people, particularly those with SEN or additional barriers to learning.

  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to motivate disengaged learners.

  • Patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for working with young people.

  • Teaching qualification (PTLLS/DTLLS/PGCE) is desirable but not essential — the college can support training for the right candidate.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

Why the college?

  • Opportunity to make a real difference to learners with additional needs.

  • Supportive FE environment with excellent training and development.

  • Access to high-quality facilities and resources.

  • Clear progression routes within one of London’s leading college groups.
