Location: Barnet
Salary: £100-£115
Contract: Full-time, term-time only
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

I am seeking a calm, organised and dedicated Cover Supervisor to join a specialist school for pupils aged 8 to 19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

This is a varied and rewarding position, providing classroom supervision and support when teachers are absent. You will deliver pre-prepared lessons, ensure continuity of learning, and maintain a positive and structured learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage classes in the absence of the teacher, ensuring pupils remain on task.
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and activities effectively.
  • Maintain a calm, supportive and purposeful learning environment.
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs, helping them to manage their emotions and behaviour positively.
  • Promote engagement, independence and self-regulation.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with pupils and colleagues.
  • Follow all safeguarding, behaviour and wellbeing policies consistently.
  • Provide clear feedback to teaching staff regarding pupil participation and progress.

About You

The ideal candidate will be confident, empathetic and able to remain composed under pressure. You will be passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and committed to helping them achieve their best.

  • Able to build trust and rapport quickly with pupils.

  • Reliable, well-organised and professional at all times.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational or SEMH context.
  • A sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience within an SEMH, SEND, PRU or alternative provision setting.
  • Training in behaviour management, trauma-informed practice or de-escalation strategies.
