Cover Supervisor - Barnet

Contract: Full-time, term-time only
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm

About the Role
I am seeking a calm, organised and dedicated Cover Supervisor to join a specialist school for pupils aged 8 to 19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
This is a varied and rewarding position, providing classroom supervision and support when teachers are absent. You will deliver pre-prepared lessons, ensure continuity of learning, and maintain a positive and structured learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage classes in the absence of the teacher, ensuring pupils remain on task.
- Deliver pre-planned lessons and activities effectively.
- Maintain a calm, supportive and purposeful learning environment.
- Support pupils with SEMH needs, helping them to manage their emotions and behaviour positively.
- Promote engagement, independence and self-regulation.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with pupils and colleagues.
- Follow all safeguarding, behaviour and wellbeing policies consistently.
- Provide clear feedback to teaching staff regarding pupil participation and progress.

Essential Experience:
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational or SEMH context.
- A sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience within an SEMH, SEND, PRU or alternative provision setting.
- Training in behaviour management, trauma-informed practice or de-escalation strategies.
