Are you looking to take the next step in your career? Seeking a middle leadership role specifically with autism?

The Role

Parker Smith Inclusion are supporting a autism specialist college based in East London that are seeking an experienced and visionary Curriculum Lead to join their team for the upcoming summer term. This is a vital middle-leadership role where autism practice and advisory expertise are woven into every aspect of the curriculum.

Unlike a standard subject lead, you will be responsible for the strategic design and oversight of the broader curriculum, ensuring it meets the diverse needs of the students. You will work in an advisory and mentoring capacity, modeling top-tier classroom practice and supporting staff teams without the responsibility of a specific form group.

  • Strategic Leadership: Oversee and design curriculum pathways across two core programs:

  • Preparation for Adulthood (PFA): A life-skills curriculum for higher-needs students, focusing on independence, community inclusion, and employment readiness.

  • Supported Internship Program: Working with host businesses in central London (e.g., law and logistics firms) to support lower-need students in professional environments.

  • Advisory & Mentoring: Act as a specialist advisor on autism practice across the college, mentoring staff and modeling "top classroom practice".

  • Curriculum Design: Lead on the design of holistic curriculum structures rather than just individual subject delivery.

  • Teaching: Deliver subject-specific sessions as part of a reduced timetable (approx. 30%).

Experience we would like to see in our candidate;

A practitioner with a "real commitment to ASC practice" who can hit the ground running. The successful candidate will possess:

  • Specialist Expertise: A strong background in autism (ASD) practice is essential.

  • Curriculum Experience: Proven experience in curriculum design (not just subject leadership) across various subject areas.

  • High-Needs Experience: Experience working with high-needs provisions and the ability to adapt to different student requirements.

  • Leadership Skills: The ability to mentor staff and lead strategically to improve outcomes for students graduating into the community or employment.

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a role with significant strategic weight in a supportive environment. While this is initially a one-term booking for the summer, there is a clear opportunity to apply for the permanent position during our external recruitment round at the end of the term.
