Deaf and Hearing Support Practitioner | Hearing Impairment Provision | Brent, North West London | £92.59–£97.50 per day PAYE
What changes for a deaf child the moment someone in the room can truly communicate with them, not just supervise them, but actually reach them?
Everything. The right communication support does not just help a hearing impaired pupil keep pace with their peers. It opens up the whole school day to them: the jokes, the group discussions, the small moments of connection that make a classroom feel like it belongs to you too.
If you bring BSL skills, patience and real commitment to that kind of inclusion, this Brent primary school wants to talk to you.
The Setting
An inclusive mainstream primary school for children aged 4 to 11, built around a dedicated Hearing Impairment Provision. Communication here is multi-modal, drawing on BSL, SSE, and spoken and written English, and many pupils also have additional needs including Autism, SEMH or Visual Impairment. Deaf awareness is not a training session that happened once. It runs through every classroom and every interaction across the school. You will be joining an experienced team with strong systems already in place and genuine support from day one.
The Role
You will work across both the specialist provision and mainstream classes, using your BSL skills to open up communication, support learning and help hearing impaired pupils feel fully part of school life.
Day to day, you will:
Support pupils with hearing impairments across specialist and mainstream settings Use BSL, SSE and multi-modal communication to support understanding and participation Work closely with teachers, therapists and support staff as part of a genuinely collaborative team Contribute to whole-school deaf awareness and staff development Help build an environment where every child feels they truly belong
Who This Is For
Candidates with a basic understanding of BSL People confident using BSL in a busy, fast-moving classroom Patient, warm individuals with a genuine passion for supporting diverse communication needs Those with school or provision experience, though strong candidates newer to education are welcome too Anyone working towards a future as a Teacher of the Deaf, SEN Teacher or Speech and Language Therapist, this is experience that is genuinely hard to find elsewhere
What You Will Get
£92.59 to £97.50 per day, PAYE, paid directly with no umbrella companies involved Monday to Friday, 08:20 to 15:45, term time only Immediate start available Ongoing CPD and professional development Exceptional grounding for anyone moving towards a specialist career in deaf education or SEND Full support throughout the process from Daniel at Parker Smith Inclusion
Why This Role Matters
For many deaf and hearing impaired children, the line between feeling included and feeling invisible is drawn by one person, the adult who makes real communication possible for them. In this role, that person is you. What you bring into that classroom each day does not just support their learning. It shapes how they see their own place in the world.
If you are ready to do work that genuinely matters, get in touch today.
