Design Technology Teacher – Focus on Resistant Materials
Kingston, South West London | Permanent | September Start
£32,000 – £48,000 per annum, depending on experience
You know the kind of students who don’t always fit the mould – who struggle with long written tasks but light up when they’re building, making, fixing? This role is for them. And for someone like you, who knows how to bring learning to life through practical, hands-on teaching.
We’re looking for a Design Technology Teacher with experience in Resistant Materials to join a specialist school in Kingston, South West London, this September. You’ll be teaching in a well-equipped workshop, with the freedom to adapt your lessons to suit the learners in front of you.
This permanent position is ideal for someone who wants to use their DT skills in a setting that focuses on individual progress, life skills, and building confidence.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Planning and teaching engaging Resistant Materials lessons – woodwork, construction, simple product design, and creative projects
- Delivering some Food Technology lessons as part of a broader practical curriculum (you don’t need to be a chef – just confident to teach cooking basics!)
- Supporting students with Autism and communication needs, in small classes with excellent support
- Working closely with therapists, support staff and a forward-thinking leadership team
- Helping young people gain real-life skills and a sense of achievement
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified Teacher (QTS or QTLS) with a background in Design Technology – especially in Resistant Materials
- Someone confident to teach a bit of Food Tech, even if it’s not their main subject
- A calm, adaptable approach – experience with SEND is helpful, but not essential if you’re open to learning
- Someone who enjoys practical teaching and wants to see students grow in confidence and independence
What’s Great About This School
- Purpose-built workshop and kitchen spaces
- Class sizes are small, with great adult-to-student ratios
- Strong focus on creativity, wellbeing, and relationships
- Supportive, down-to-earth team who care about staff as much as students
- A real sense of purpose – you can see the difference you’re making every day
At Parker Smith Inclusion, we specialise in SEND recruitment. Our team understands the sector and takes the time to match you with the right school, not just the first one. We’re honest, supportive, and here to help at every stage.
What you’ll get with us:
- A long-term or permanent role matched to your experience and goals
- Full PAYE – no hidden fees or umbrella deductions
- Support and preparation before your interview
- Exclusive access to roles at specialist schools across London
- Insight into each school’s leadership, values, and culture
