Early Years SEND Teaching Assistant - Barnet

Barnet, North London
£95–£110 per day, depending on experience
Full-time | Long-term

I am looking for an Early Years SEND Teaching Assistant to support young children who need additional help to successfully access nursery or reception.

Working with SEND in Early Years requires patience, creativity and a willingness to meet children at their individual developmental level. The strongest support does not simply keep a child occupied; it helps them communicate, engage, play and gradually become more independent.

This role could suit an experienced EYFS Teaching Assistant, Nursery Practitioner, SEN Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant.

The role

You may be supporting children with communication differences, developmental delay, autism or other additional needs.

Your responsibilities could include:

  • Supporting learning through play

  • Providing individual and small-group support

  • Encouraging communication and interaction

  • Helping children develop independence with everyday routines

  • Supporting transitions between activities

  • Helping children regulate when they become overwhelmed

  • Using visual resources and structured routines

  • Working closely with the class teacher and SEND team

  • Recording observations and contributing towards pupil progress

What are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Experience working with young children

  • A patient, warm and consistent approach

  • Good communication skills

  • Confidence providing individual support

  • Genuine interest in Early Years SEND

Desirable:

  • Previous SEND experience

  • Nursery or Reception experience

  • Autism or communication-needs experience

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years qualification

  • Previous 1:1 support experience

Why consider this role?

Early support can have a significant impact on a child's confidence and experience of education.

You will have the opportunity to recognise and celebrate progress that other people may easily overlook — from a child communicating a choice to joining an activity independently for the first time.
