If that moment stayed with you, this Early Years Teacher role deserves a closer look. I am working with a specialist SEND school in West London that needs a qualified EYFS Teacher to lead a small class of young children with Autism (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) from January 2027.

Why January start is important
If you are teaching now, you usually need to resign by 31 October to start somewhere new in January. That gives you a few weeks to decide. I am arranging interviews now, so you have time to decide before the deadline.
A day in your classroom
Your morning starts at the door, reading each child's face as they arrive. One needs a quiet corner and a familiar object before anything else. Another is ready to explore straight away. Your Teaching Assistants already know who needs what because you set the plan together.
By mid-morning, you are on the floor, leading a sensory activity that three children join and one watches from across the room. You count that as progress. At snack time, a child uses a symbol to ask for more for the first time, and every adult in the room notices.
The children you will teach
The children are at the very start of their school lives. Some have a recent autism diagnosis. Some are still learning to separate from home. Most communicate through gestures, sounds, symbols, or behaviour. They learn best through play and repetition, with adults they trust. Each child moves at their own pace towards targets set in their EHCP and the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.
What you will do
- Plan and teach a play-based EYFS curriculum adapted for young autistic children with MLD and SLD
- Use visual supports, objects of reference, Makaton and calm routines so every child feels safe
- Lead your Teaching Assistants so that every adult shares the same goals for each child
- Observe closely, record small steps and review progress against EHCP targets
- Build warm, honest relationships with families, many of whom are new to specialist education
