We are seeking a passionate and resilient English Teacher to join a specialist education setting supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and other neurodiverse profiles.
This role offers the chance to make a genuine difference by combining high-quality English teaching with a therapeutic and holistic approach to education.
The Role
As an English Teacher, you will deliver engaging and accessible English Language, English Literature and Literacy lessons to pupils across Key Stages 2, 3 and 4, with opportunities to support students working towards Functional Skills, GCSE and A-Level qualifications where appropriate.
Working as part of a highly supportive multidisciplinary team, you will tailor learning to meet individual needs, helping pupils achieve their EHCP outcomes, academic goals, and personal aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver creative and engaging English lessons that inspire and motivate learners.
- Adapt and differentiate learning for pupils with additional needs, including ASC and SEMH.
- Monitor progress through a range of formative and summative assessments.
- Develop individual learning plans and contribute to EHCP reviews and annual review meetings.
- Lead on literacy development across the school, supporting colleagues to embed literacy skills into lessons.
- Create innovative schemes of work and curriculum projects that promote meaningful learning experiences.
- Support pupils' emotional wellbeing and personal development through a tutor role.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and support staff to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
- Maintain strong safeguarding practices and promote a safe, positive learning environment.
- Positively support behaviour through relationship-based approaches, recognising that behaviour is a form of communication.
What We're Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching English within KS2, KS3 and/or KS4.
- A commitment to inclusive education and improving outcomes for vulnerable learners.
- Understanding of SEND, neurodiversity, ASC and SEMH, or a genuine desire to develop expertise in specialist education.
- Strong relationship-building skills and a nurturing, adaptable approach.
- A passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve success.
