EXPERIENCED LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT – COMPLEX SEND
£100 per day PAYE | ASAP Start | Long-Term | Primary
Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting for a primary school looking for an experienced Learning Support Assistant to work 1:1 with a KS1 pupil with complex SEND.
This is not a role for someone looking to gain their first experience of SEND. The school needs someone who has already worked directly with children with complex communication and developmental needs and is confident supporting a child with significant additional needs.
The pupil has Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Global Developmental Delay (GDD). They are pre-verbal and use PECS to communicate.
The successful candidate will need to understand how to support a child who does not communicate through speech, recognise their individual communication and behavioural cues, and use appropriate communication strategies consistently throughout the school day.
Experience Required
We are specifically looking for someone with hands-on experience supporting children with complex SEND.
You should have experience working with children who may be:
- Autistic
- Pre-verbal or non-verbal
- Using PECS or another form of AAC
- Working significantly below age-related expectations
- Presenting with complex developmental or communication needs
Experience using PECS or AAC is particularly important for this role.
This is a 1:1 position where you will need to understand the individual child rather than relying on verbal communication to know what they need.
You will need to be able to:
- Recognise changes in behaviour, communication and engagement
- Understand and respond to non-verbal communication
- Use PECS/AAC consistently and appropriately
- Adapt activities and your communication to the child's level of understanding
- Provide structure and consistency throughout the school day
- Support the child to engage with learning and classroom routines
- Work closely with the class teacher and wider school team
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for an experienced SEND practitioner, not someone who is simply interested in gaining experience in this area.
You may currently be working as a Learning Support Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Specialist Support Assistant or in a similar role.
What matters is that you have recent, practical experience supporting children with complex SEND and are confident working 1:1 with a child who has significant communication and developmental needs.
If you have the experience required and are available for an ASAP start, please contact elisha@psinclusion.co.uk or call 0203 011 4848.
