EYFS 1:1 Teaching Assistant - Complex Needs & Personal Care

Camden, North London
£100–£110 per day PAYE, depending on experience
Full-time | Long-term | EYFS

Parker Smith Inclusion is working with a welcoming primary school in Camden that is looking for an experienced EYFS 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide consistent, individual support for a young child with complex SEND.

This is a hands-on role where relationship-building, patience and consistency really matter. The child has high and complex needs, is non-verbal and requires significant support throughout the school day, including personal care.

The school is looking for someone who understands that communication does not always happen through words and who can remain calm, attentive and reassuring when a child is struggling to regulate.

The role

Working closely with the EYFS team and wider SEND staff, you will:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the child's time in school

  • Support communication, engagement and emotional regulation

  • Help the child access appropriate EYFS learning and play activities

  • Respond calmly and safely to behaviours that may arise from communication difficulties or dysregulation

  • Provide personal care, including changing, alongside another member of staff where required

  • Support physical and sensory needs throughout the day

  • Help establish predictable routines and a sense of safety

  • Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to follow agreed strategies and support plans

  • Build a secure and trusting relationship while encouraging appropriate independence

Who would suit this role?

This position would particularly suit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or 1:1 Support Assistant who has previously supported children with complex needs.

Essential:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND

  • Comfortable providing personal care

  • Calm, patient and emotionally resilient

  • Confident supporting a child who may display behaviours that challenge

  • Able to build trust while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries

  • Committed to providing reliable, long-term support

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting non-verbal children

  • Experience with complex needs within EYFS or primary education

  • Knowledge of communication, sensory or emotional regulation strategies

  • Experience in a specialist SEND setting or with children who require a high level of individual support

Why consider this role?

For the right person, this is an opportunity to provide something incredibly important: consistency.

Rather than supporting several pupils across a classroom, you will have the opportunity to understand one child's communication, routines, triggers and progress in depth. Your support can help them feel safer at school, access their environment and gradually develop their independence.
