Higher Level Teaching Assistant - Fashion - SEND College     

September 2026 start 

Full Time 

8am - 4:30pm

Parker Smith Inclusion is supporting a specialist college with their recruitment for HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) with Fashion & Business. The college focuses on supporting learners with autism but are independent and learning up to Level 3 Qualification. 

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Higher Level Teaching Assistant with experience in fashion, textiles, enterprise, or business. The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting young people with SEND to develop practical vocational skills, confidence, independence, and employability. You will have strong interpersonal skills, experience working in educational or training settings, and the ability to inspire learners through real-world projects that connect creativity with enterprise and future employment opportunities.

You'll be working in an environment that is dedicated to delivering inclusive, vocational education to empower learners aged 16-25 using a creative, unique approach with lessons focusing on Design, Digital, Business, Creative Media and Employability skills. The focus is on building confidence, independence, practical skills and helping the learners to achieve recognised qualifications for adult-life and connect them with real-world opportunities and meaningful futures. 

Teaching & Learning Support: 

  • Support the planning and delivery of engaging fashion, enterprise, and business-related learning activities.
  • Deliver small-group and one-to-one sessions under the direction of teaching staff.
  • Providing support to the class teacher with the lesson plans and subject. 
  • Adapt teaching materials to meet the individual needs of learners with SEND.

Fashion & Creative Experience: 

  • Support learners in developing practical fashion and textile skills, including garment construction, alterations, sewing, pattern cutting, upcycling, and product development.
  • Assist with fashion projects from concept development through to production.
  • Support learners in maintaining safe use of sewing machines, equipment, and workshop facilities.
  • Help organise fashion shows, exhibitions, pop-up shops, and community events showcasing learner work.
  • Maintain stock, materials, and equipment within fashion workshops.

Business Development: 

  • Support learners in developing entrepreneurial and employability skills.
  • Assist learners in understanding business concepts such as branding, marketing, budgeting, pricing, customer service, and sales.
  • Support student-led enterprises and social enterprise projects.
  • Help learners create products for sale for the college shop. 
  • Assist with market research and promotional activities, including social media content where appropriate.

This role would be perfect for passionate fashion graduates but must have experience within an employment setting and confident to support students with SEND.
