Food Technology Teacher – SEMH School – Barnet (ASAP or January Start)

Are you a creative and compassionate Food Technology Teacher who believes education can transform lives?
Do you thrive in a nurturing, calm and therapeutic environment, where relationships and wellbeing are at the heart of everything you do?

We are delighted to be working with a specialist SEMH school in Barnet that provides a safe and supportive setting for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs. This is not a typical SEMH school - it’s warm, structured, and settled, with low levels of challenging behaviour and a strong focus on helping young people grow in confidence, resilience, and independence.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a teacher who wants to inspire creativity, teach valuable life skills, and show students how food technology can open doors to new opportunities and self-belief.

The Role

  • Deliver exciting, hands-on Food Technology lessons up to GCSE level, bringing learning to life through practical exploration.

  • Nurture curiosity and confidence in every learner, celebrating progress and creativity.

  • Differentiate lessons to meet a wide range of needs, ensuring all students can experience success.

  • Maintain a calm, structured and supportive classroom built on trust, empathy, and clear boundaries.

  • Work collaboratively with the wider staff team and families to provide holistic support for students’ academic and emotional development.

  • Inspire learners to see how food, nutrition, and teamwork can connect to future careers and healthy living.

About You

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching Food Technology at KS3 or GCSE level.

  • A positive, patient and reflective practitioner who values emotional wellbeing alongside academic growth.

  • Understanding of or experience with SEMH learners, or a strong desire to work in a therapeutic setting.

  • Excellent communication, emotional intelligence, and behaviour management skills.

  • A team player with a passion for helping young people discover their strengths and potential.

  • Small class sizes, well-equipped facilities, and a focus on creativity and engagement.

  • A calm, structured environment with low-level behaviour and a strong pastoral ethos.
