About the role
Food Technology can offer young people something that traditional classroom learning sometimes cannot — the chance to create something practical, develop a skill and see an immediate result.
A specialist education setting in Hillingdon is looking for a Food Technology Teacher to deliver engaging, practical lessons to young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.
This is a role for a teacher who can combine strong subject knowledge with patience, structure and the ability to build positive relationships.
The setting
The setting supports young people with SEMH needs who may have experienced difficulties in mainstream education.
The environment is structured, supportive and focused on helping pupils develop both academically and personally.
As a Food Technology Teacher, you will have the opportunity to make learning practical, purposeful and accessible.
You will:

Plan and deliver engaging Food Technology lessons

Adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs
-
Teach practical cooking, food preparation and relevant theory

Develop pupils' confidence, independence and practical skills
-
Maintain high expectations for learning and behaviour
-
Assess and monitor pupil progress
-
Create a safe, organised and inclusive learning environment
-
Build positive relationships with pupils and understand individual barriers to learning

Work alongside pastoral and support staff
-
Contribute to EHCP reviews and pupil progress where required

Promote positive behaviour through consistency and restorative approaches
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a Food Technology Teacher who is confident delivering practical lessons and understands that pupils may need a different approach to succeed.
You will be:

A qualified teacher with strong Food Technology subject knowledge

Creative, adaptable and well organised

Confident managing challenging behaviour

Patient, resilient and consistent

Able to build trust and positive relationships

Committed to inclusion and individual progress

Able to maintain high expectations while showing empathy
Experience within SEMH, SEN, alternative provision or specialist education would be beneficial, although experienced mainstream Food Technology Teachers will also be considered.
