Food Technology Teacher – Specialist SEMH Provision | Hillingdon
Location: Hillingdon
Pay: £201.01–£298.05 per day PAYE
Job Type: Full time, Monday–Friday, term time only
Contract: Temp to perm
Start Date: ASAP
Setting: Specialist education provision supporting young people with SEMH needs
About the role
Could you be the teacher who helps a young person discover that they are capable of more than they thought?
For some pupils, practical learning can unlock something that traditional classroom teaching has struggled to reach. Preparing food, learning a new technique, following a recipe and creating something they can be proud of can provide a genuine sense of achievement.
A specialist education setting in Hillingdon is looking for a Food Technology Teacher to deliver engaging, practical lessons to young people with SEMH needs.
This is a role where your subject knowledge matters, but so does your ability to build trust, remain consistent and help pupils believe in themselves again.
The Role
You will create practical, purposeful Food Technology lessons that develop both subject knowledge and wider life skills.
You will:
-
Plan and deliver engaging Food Technology lessons
-
Teach practical cooking, food preparation and relevant theory
-
Adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs
-
Encourage independence, confidence and positive attitudes towards learning
-
Maintain high expectations for learning and behaviour
-
Assess and monitor pupil progress
-
Create a safe, structured and inclusive classroom
-
Build positive relationships with pupils
-
Identify and respond to individual barriers to learning
-
Work closely with pastoral and support staff
-
Contribute to EHCP reviews and pupil progress where required
Who we're looking for
We are looking for a qualified Food Technology Teacher who can bring their subject to life while understanding that pupils may need a different route into learning.
You will be:
-
A qualified teacher with strong Food Technology knowledge
-
Creative, adaptable and well organised
-
Patient, resilient and consistent
-
Confident managing challenging behaviour
-
Able to build positive relationships with pupils
-
Committed to inclusion and individual progress
-
Able to maintain high expectations while showing empathy
Experience in SEMH, SEN, alternative provision or specialist education would be beneficial, but experienced mainstream Food Technology Teachers are encouraged to apply.
Why Food Technology matters
Sometimes progress starts with something practical.
It might be a pupil who has previously refused to engage deciding to take part in a lesson.
It might be learning to follow instructions, work safely, solve a problem or complete something independently.
And sometimes it is simply the moment a young person looks at what they have created and feels proud of themselves.
That is the opportunity this role provides.
