How do you teach a map, a river system, or a case study to a student who has learned to switch off the moment a subject gets abstract? What happens in your classroom in the ninety seconds after a pupil decides they cannot do this?

This SEN school in Mole Valley, Surrey, needs a Geography Teacher who has already worked out the answer to both.

About the Role

From September 2026, a Geography Teacher is needed to join a school supporting pupils aged 7 to 16 with Autism, ADHD, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Every pupil holds an EHCP.

About the School

Curriculum here is built around the pupil, not the syllabus. Lessons flex depending on what a class can hold that day, and staff read the room constantly rather than working through a fixed plan. Academic progress and emotional well-being carry equal weight. Classes stay small enough that you will know exactly where each pupil is, subject by subject.

The Role

  • Adapt Geography content and delivery for pupils working at very different levels within the same room
  • Turn abstract topics into something concrete enough for a pupil with high anxiety to attempt
  • Read early signs that a pupil is losing confidence in a task, and change course before it becomes a bigger moment
  • Work alongside Teaching Assistants who know each pupil well, and use what they know
  • Track progress against EHCP outcomes, not just curriculum milestones

What We're Looking For

Qualified Teacher Status is ideal. Mainstream Geography teaching experience is welcome without prior SEND experience, provided you are genuinely willing to teach differently to how you have taught before. What matters most here is patience under pressure and the flexibility to change your plan mid-lesson.

Location

Based in Mole Valley, Surrey, and easily reached from Guildford, Leatherhead, Epsom, Reigate, Redhill and Godalming.
