Location: East London
Contract: Long-term
Salary: £95 - £100 per day PAYE
Start Date: To be confirmed

Are you a graduate with a passion for education and a desire to make a difference?

Parker Smith Inclusion is working with a secondary education setting in East London to recruit enthusiastic and academically strong Graduate Teaching Assistants to support students with their learning and development.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates who have a strong educational background, excellent English skills and a particular interest in their specialist subject. Whether your degree is in English, Maths, Science, Humanities or another academic discipline, we're interested in hearing from individuals who can bring their subject knowledge into the classroom and help young people develop their skills and confidence.

You'll be supporting students both inside and outside the classroom, working alongside teaching staff to encourage engagement, strengthen literacy and numeracy skills and help learners overcome barriers to their education.

The Role

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you'll play an important role in supporting students throughout their school day. You'll use your academic knowledge and communication skills to help make learning accessible, encourage independent thinking and provide additional support where needed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students across a range of secondary subjects, using your own academic strengths and subject knowledge.
  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to help students understand lesson content and complete learning activities.
  • Supporting literacy, reading, writing, comprehension and written communication skills across the curriculum.
  • Helping students develop their confidence, organisation and independent learning skills.
  • Working alongside subject teachers to reinforce key learning objectives and support classroom activities.
  • Providing additional academic support outside the classroom where students may benefit from a quieter or more focused learning environment.
  • Encouraging positive engagement, participation and a genuine interest in learning.
  • Building positive relationships with students and helping them overcome academic and personal barriers.
  • Supporting students' wider development, confidence and preparation for future education or employment.

The Ideal Candidate

We're particularly interested in graduates who have a strong academic background and can demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in a relevant academic subject, such as English, Maths, Science, Humanities or another specialist discipline.
  • A strong educational background with good literacy, reading, writing and comprehension skills.
  • The ability to explain subject-specific concepts clearly and confidently.
  • Excellent written English and attention to detail.
  • A genuine interest in education and supporting young people with their learning.
  • The confidence to work with secondary-aged students both individually and in small groups.
  • A patient, approachable and encouraging manner.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to adapt your approach to different learning needs.

Previous experience working with young people, tutoring, mentoring or supporting learning would be beneficial, but graduates looking to begin a career in education are encouraged to apply.
