Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Complex Needs
We are looking for dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistants to take a leading role in supporting a small class of pupils with complex needs. You will provide structure and consistency throughout the school day, coordinate in-class support, and take the lead on behaviour management and wellbeing.
Working alongside specialist subject teachers, you’ll be the key point of stability for pupils—helping to create a nurturing and therapeutic environment that supports learning, emotional development, and social progress.
About the Pupils
Our pupils have a range of complex neurodiverse needs, including Autism (ASC) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many have experienced previous educational challenges or trauma and require intensive, consistent support to achieve positive outcomes and rebuild trust in education.
About the Setting
This independent day school offers a therapeutic and creative approach to specialist education for neurodiverse children and young people aged 7–19. Pupils are supported through small class sizes, tailored learning pathways, and a strong focus on emotional wellbeing. The school provides an arts-rich curriculum alongside core academic subjects, encouraging every pupil to find their strengths and develop confidence in their abilities.
What We’re Looking For
Essential requirements:
- Proven experience supporting or managing neurodiverse young people, particularly those with ASC and/or SEMH needs.
- Understanding of how these needs impact behaviour, communication, and learning.
- A relevant Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification (or a willingness to work towards one).
- Resilience, commitment, and the ability to remain positive and consistent under pressure.
- Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively, following pupil-centred targets and plans.
- A child-focused approach, with a belief in empowering young people and their families to take an active role in decisions affecting their lives.
