Health and Social Care Teacher
- Wandsworth, South West London
- ASAP Start
- £160 - £270 PAYE per day, depending on experience and teaching qualification (QTS / QTLS)
- Opportunity for a permanent contract
A friendly and creative specialist school in Wandsworth, South West London, is looking for a Health and Social Care Teacher to join them immediately.
The school supports children and young people with Autism, SEMH, ADHD and associated communication and emotional regulation needs. They need a Health and Social Care teacher who understands that in SEND, the subject matters, but relationships matter more.
The Role
You will teach Health and Social Care across Key Stages 4 and 5, including Post-16 learners. Some students are working towards formal qualifications, others are following personalised, adapted pathways.
You will:
- Plan and deliver engaging Health and Social Care lessons
- Differentiate for learners with Autism, SEMH and additional needs
- Teach across two sites within the same local area
- Support students who may present with dysregulation or anxiety
- Work closely with support staff, therapists and leadership
- Embed employability, independence and real-life application into your teaching
This is not a traditional classroom environment. Flexibility, humour, emotional intelligence and consistency are essential.
Who This Role Is Right For
You may be:
- QTS or QTLS qualified
- An experienced, unqualified teacher with strong vocational credibility
- A mainstream Health and Social Care teacher looking for more purpose
- A Post 16 lecturer with experience of complex needs
- From a PRU or alternative provision background
What matters most is that you genuinely understand SEND.
You need to remain calm when a young person is dysregulated. You need to see behaviour as communication. You need to know when to challenge and when to step back.
If you are applying because you need “a job”, this will feel difficult.
The School
- Specialist provision for Autism and SEMH
- Small class sizes
- Strong staff-to-student ratios
- Therapeutic and pastoral support embedded
- Clear routines and a structured environment
It is supportive and well-led. It is also realistic about the challenges. Some days require patience. Progress can be slow and non-linear. Emotional regulation will sometimes take priority over curriculum pacing.
But when students trust you, engage, and begin to see a future pathway for themselves, the impact is significant.
