Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
Enfield | Specialist SEND School | September 2026 Start | Full-Time | Term-Time Only
Could you be the person who helps a young person with complex needs take their next big step?
We’re working with a highly regarded specialist SEND school in Enfield that is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their KS3 Complex Needs provision from September 2026.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced HLTA who wants to work in a genuinely supportive setting, where strong staffing levels mean you can focus on what matters most — helping pupils learn, develop and become more independent.
About the Role
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you’ll play an important role in supporting teaching and learning across the KS3 Complex Needs provision.
One of the biggest strengths of the setting is the level of support within each classroom. You’ll work alongside a Teacher and three SEN Teaching Assistants, giving pupils a highly personalised level of support throughout the school day.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Leading lessons and covering classes when required
-
Delivering targeted interventions and small group activities
-
Supporting pupils with Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties, communication needs and complex SEND
-
Helping pupils work towards their EHCP targets and personalised learning goals
-
Supporting pupils' communication, independence and social development
-
Working closely with teachers, therapists and wider support staff
-
Creating a positive, engaging and inclusive learning environment
-
Supporting pupils academically, socially and emotionally
This is a role where you’ll have the opportunity to take on genuine responsibility while being part of a strong and collaborative classroom team.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced HLTA who is passionate about working with pupils with SEND and confident taking the lead when required.
You will ideally have:
-
Previous experience working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant
-
A HLTA qualification or significant experience in a similar role
-
Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, Autism or complex needs
-
Confidence leading lessons and managing a class when required
-
A proactive, resilient and positive approach
-
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider team
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who understands that working in specialist education is about more than academic progress.
You’ll be patient, adaptable and committed to helping every pupil develop their confidence, communication, independence and ability to succeed.
About the School
The school is a specialist SEND setting in Enfield, supporting pupils with a range of complex additional needs.
The KS3 provision provides a highly personalised approach to education, with excellent staffing levels and a strong focus on individual pupil development.
You’ll be joining a supportive and collaborative team that works closely with teachers, SEN staff, therapists and other professionals to ensure pupils receive the right support.
The school also places a strong emphasis on staff development and ongoing training, making this a great environment for an HLTA looking to continue developing their career within specialist education.
