I am recruiting an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant for a full-time role in Barnet, supporting pupils with SEND while taking on greater responsibility across the classroom.

This would suit someone who has already built strong experience as a Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant and is ready for a role with more independence, leadership and responsibility.

You will still work closely with pupils, but you may also lead small groups, deliver planned learning activities and support the wider classroom team.

The role

Your responsibilities may include:

• Leading small-group interventions

• Delivering planned lessons and learning activities

• Supporting pupils with SEND on a 1:1 basis

• Providing short periods of class supervision where appropriate

• Adapting resources to meet individual needs

• Supporting pupils with communication, engagement and regulation

• Working closely with teachers and SEND staff

• Monitoring and recording pupil progress

• Supporting less experienced Teaching Assistants where required

• Helping maintain consistent classroom routines and expectations

What are we looking for?

Essential:

• Strong previous school-based experience

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND

• Confidence leading individuals and small groups

• Good literacy and numeracy skills

• A calm and consistent approach

• The ability to work independently while following teacher planning

Desirable:

• HLTA qualification

• Previous HLTA experience

• Experience delivering interventions

• Autism, SEMH or complex-needs experience

• Experience supervising or supporting other Teaching Assistants

Candidates without a formal HLTA qualification may still be considered if they have strong relevant experience.
