Parker Smith Inclusion is working with a specialist SEMH school in Brentwood looking for an experienced HLTA to join their team from September.
This is a role where relationships really matter. You’ll be supporting young people who may have experienced trauma, disrupted education and significant barriers to learning, helping them feel safe, regulate their emotions and engage with education.
About the Role
You’ll play an important role across both the learning and pastoral support of pupils, working closely with teachers and the wider team.
Your role could include:

Leading lessons and activities for individuals and small groups

Covering classes and supporting teachers where required

Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour
-
Using calm and consistent approaches during challenging situations

Building positive relationships with pupils who may initially struggle to engage

Setting clear boundaries and maintaining consistent expectations
-
Helping pupils develop confidence and independence

Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and specialist professionals
This isn't about having all the answers. It’s about being patient, reliable and consistent, particularly when things don't go to plan.
About You
You may already be an experienced HLTA, or you could be an experienced SEND TA looking to take the next step.
We’d also be interested in candidates with backgrounds in youth work, mentoring, residential care, behaviour support or similar settings.
We’re looking for someone who:

Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH

Is calm and confident when behaviour becomes challenging

Can build strong relationships with vulnerable young people

Is comfortable setting clear and appropriate boundaries

Has experience leading learning or supporting within a classroom

Is patient, resilient and consistent

Genuinely wants to help young people make progress

You’ll be joining a specialist SEMH setting where staff take the time to understand the young person behind the behaviour.
