Secondary SEND Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Location: Thurrock
Pay: £110 per day (PAYE – no umbrella companies)
Contract: Temporary for the first 12 weeks, with the opportunity to become permanent for the right person
Start date: ASAP

We're looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Thurrock, supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

This position starts on a temporary basis, with the opportunity to move into a permanent role after 12 weeks. We're looking for someone who wants to settle into a school, get to know the pupils and become a consistent part of the support team.

What are we looking for?

You don't necessarily need previous school experience. Experience in education, care or support work is useful, but we're also open to people looking to move into this type of role for the first time.

You'll need to be someone who is happy to get involved, take direction from teachers and other support staff, and adapt to what the day brings. Supporting pupils with additional needs requires patience and consistency, particularly when a pupil is finding something difficult or needs extra help to engage.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is patient, reliable and able to stay calm under pressure

  • Is comfortable working with secondary-aged pupils with SEND

  • Can follow guidance and adapt to individual pupils' needs

  • Works well with teachers and other support staff

  • Is willing to learn and take on new responsibilities

  • Understands the importance of consistency when supporting young people

Is this role right for you?

You don't need to arrive with all the answers, but you do need to be willing to learn, listen to feedback and get involved in the day-to-day running of the classroom.

If you've worked in a school, care setting or support role before, your experience could be relevant. If you're new to SEND, we'd still be interested in hearing from you if you have the right approach and are ready to learn.

Interested?

If you'd like to discuss the role, find out more about the school or apply, please get in touch.
