An exceptional Secondary School in Merton is seeking an experienced and qualified SENCo to join their supportive leadership team on a long-term to permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate SEND leader who wants to take ownership of a well-established SEND department and drive inclusive practice across the school.

The SENCo Role

As SENCo, you will:

  • Lead and strategically manage SEND provision across the secondary school

  • Develop, implement and oversee SEND strategy and systems

  • Coordinate EHCPs, annual reviews, referrals and new applications

  • Support inclusive teaching practices across KS3, KS4 and KS5

  • Lead and develop a team of Teaching Assistants and SEND support staff

  • Work collaboratively with families and external agencies

  • Rebuild and strengthen transition plans, particularly within KS3

  • Model outstanding teaching practice and conduct observations

Teaching Commitment:

Up to 10 periods (out of a 26-period cycle), dependent on subject specialism (may be lower).

This role requires flexibility, resilience and a proactive mindset. The school values a SENCo who can adapt, lead confidently, and fully invest in the SEND department’s development.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Secondary teaching experience (essential)

  • NASENCo or NPQ SENDCo qualification

  • Strong knowledge of SEND legislation and statutory processes

  • Experience leading annual reviews and managing EHCP/IEP processes

  • Experience leading teams and delivering CPD/training

  • Passion for inclusion and improving outcomes for young people
