This is not a traditional support role.
As a SEND Job Coach, you will play a vital role in helping young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) transition successfully from education into meaningful adulthood, employment, independence, and long-term opportunities.
A Job Coach does far more than supervise placements or accompany learners into workplace settings. The role focuses on supporting learners as they navigate the world of work by providing structure, encouragement, advocacy, and practical guidance. Through this support, learners develop confidence, independence, and employability skills that prepare them for sustainable employment and adult life.
Key Responsibilities
You will support learners to:

Build confidence within professional environments

Develop workplace communication and social interaction skills

Understand workplace expectations, routines, and professional behaviours

Prepare for interviews, work experience, and employment opportunities

Develop independence, resilience, and self-belief
-
Navigate challenges within workplace settings

Experience success in real-world environments

Progress towards sustainable employment and greater independence
Employer Engagement
You will also play an important role in supporting employers to create inclusive and supportive workplace experiences for learners.
This may include:

Building positive relationships with employers

Acting as a bridge between learners and workplace teams

Supporting reasonable adjustments and workplace adaptations

Helping employers understand learner needs appropriately and professionally
-
Providing structured on-the-job support where required

Gradually reducing support to encourage learner independence over time
