KS3 Nurture Teacher – SEMH / Therapeutic
- Location: Richmond, South West London (Outer London)
- Salary: £194.21 - £258.84, MPS (Outer London) | PAYE only
- Contract: Full-time, temporary to permanent (term-time only)
- Start date: October half-term
The role
We are partnering with a therapeutic SEMH specialist school in Richmond to appoint a KS3 Nurture Teacher. The school supports pupils who are unable to access mainstream education due to complex SEMH needs, often alongside Autism (ASC). You will deliver a nurture-based curriculum (KS2–KS3), prioritising emotional regulation, relationships and readiness to learn.
What is it like working in a SEMH school?
- Every day is different. Routines help, but no two days are the same; you must be flexible and ready to adapt.
- Relationships come first. Success depends on building trust and consistency with students before academic progress can happen.
- There will be highs and lows. You’ll see challenging behaviours and setbacks, but also incredible breakthroughs when a student feels safe enough to engage.
- Teamwork is essential. You work closely with therapists, teachers, TAs, and pastoral staff in a joined-up, therapeutic approach.
- Personal reward: It can be demanding, but helping a young person regulate, re-engage, and grow in confidence is deeply fulfilling.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging core-subject lessons within a nurture framework
- Implement trauma-informed, relational and restorative approaches
- Use positive behaviour support and effective de-escalation strategies
- Work collaboratively with therapists and specialist SEMH Teaching Assistants
- Set and review targets (including EHCP outcomes) and maintain exemplary safeguarding
About you
- QTS is essential; Primary-trained teachers are warmly encouraged to apply
- Credible experience supporting pupils with SEMH, trauma, sensory and social communication needs
- Calm, patient and consistent; a positive role model who builds trust
- SEMH school experience is an advantage; we also welcome applicants transitioning from mainstream with a strong therapeutic ethos
What’s on offer
- A growing school
- A collaborative, values-driven team and strong leadership
- Extensive SEMH and therapeutic CPD and clear progression pathways
