The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students access learning, develop independence, and build confidence in a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Providing individual and small-group support tailored to each student's unique needs.
- Assisting teachers in delivering engaging, personalised learning activities.
- Supporting students with communication, interaction, and emotional regulation.
- Using strategies such as Makaton, visual supports, PECS, and other communication tools where appropriate.
- Encouraging independence, social development, and positive self-esteem.
- Supporting the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and contributing to student progress.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure the best outcomes for students.
- Providing personal care support where required, including feeding, dressing, and toileting.
- Promoting positive behaviour through consistency, patience, and understanding.
- Supporting students with physical, sensory, and medical needs, including the use of specialist equipment when necessary.
- Creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where students feel valued and supported.
What We're Looking For
- Previous work or personal experience supporting children or young people with SEND
- A genuine passion for inclusion and making a positive impact.
- Knowledge of a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable in a variety of situations.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and specialist SEND training.
