Learning Support Assistant I Enfield I September 2026

We are seeking an exceptional Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Enfield. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine impact by supporting two pupils with additional needs within a Year 1 setting.

The majority of your time will be spent providing dedicated support to a delightful pupil with Down Syndrome who is verbal, enjoys dancing, interactive activities and is beginning an exciting transition into spending more time within the mainstream classroom. The pupil thrives with consistency, encouragement and engaging learning experiences, and requires a nurturing adult who can build a strong, trusting relationship.

You will also provide support to a second pupil with an EHCP who presents with behavioural needs but is able to access teaching and learning within the classroom environment. This aspect of the role requires confidence, patience and the ability to use positive behaviour strategies to promote engagement and success.

The role will involve:

  • Providing 1:1 support within a Year 1 classroom setting
  • Supporting a pupil with Down Syndrome as they transition into increased mainstream classroom participation
  • Delivering engaging, play-based and interactive learning opportunities
  • Encouraging communication, independence and social development
  • Supporting a second pupil with behavioural needs using a calm and consistent approach
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to implement EHCP targets and personalised strategies
  • Supporting with occasional toileting accidents if required

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly those with Down Syndrome, learning difficulties or behavioural needs
  • A warm, nurturing and enthusiastic personality
  • The ability to build positive relationships and adapt to individual needs
  • Confidence working within a mainstream primary classroom
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A proactive approach and genuine passion for inclusive education

In return, you will join a supportive school community that values the contribution of its support staff and is committed to helping every child flourish. This is an opportunity to be part of a child's journey as they take important steps towards greater independence and inclusion.

The school is looking to appoint the right person as soon as possible and would like to arrange a trial morning or full-day trial within the classroom setting.

If you are a compassionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant who is ready to make a meaningful difference every single day, we would love to hear from you.
