We are working with a mainstream primary school in Thurrock that needs your help. They are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to support a Year 2 pupil with an ASC diagnosis and sensory processing needs.
He needs someone who is fun, energetic and kind, to help him navigate the school day. School can feel overwhelming for some pupils, and he would really benefit from someone who can help him regulate his emotions at certain points throughout the day. We all have triggers and motivators – things that make us feel stressed or upset, as well as things we enjoy. Understanding what those look like for him is what will make all the difference.
Working with children can be challenging, but if you understand that behaviour is a form of communication, you'll be able to build rapport, set boundaries and make a huge, lasting impact.
You might have worked in care, have children of your own, be a psychology graduate, or simply be someone with a genuine passion for SEND education. Previous experience supporting children with ASC would be beneficial, but the right attitude, patience and willingness to learn are just as important.
