Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Specialist SEND School

Location: Benfleet, Essex
Pay: £95  per day (PAYE)
Contract: Long-term temporary
Hours: To be confirmed | Term time only

Some pupils need support with more than their learning. They need someone who understands their needs, takes the time to build trust and helps them feel comfortable and confident in school.

Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting Learning Support Assistants to join a specialist SEND school in Benfleet, supporting children and young people aged 3–19 with complex learning needs.

This is an opportunity to work alongside experienced teachers and support staff, helping pupils access learning, develop communication skills and build independence. The school supports pupils with a range of needs, including severe learning difficulties, autism and additional physical or sensory needs.

About the Role

You’ll support pupils throughout the school day, adapting your approach to their individual needs and working closely with the wider team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing individual and small-group support in the classroom.

  • Supporting pupils with complex SEND and learning difficulties.

  • Helping pupils develop communication, social skills and independence.

  • Encouraging engagement with learning and everyday school activities.

  • Following individual support plans and guidance from teaching staff.

  • Supporting pupils with their emotional and physical needs.

  • Assisting with personal care, including toileting, where required.

  • Working collaboratively with teachers and fellow support staff.

Previous school-based experience is essential. You must also be comfortable supporting personal care and toileting duties for pupils across the 3–19 age range, always maintaining their dignity and wellbeing.

Who Would Suit These Roles?

We’re looking for people who have experience working in a school and understand the importance of patience, consistency and teamwork.

You’ll need to be:

  • Experienced in a school-based role.

  • Comfortable with personal care and toileting duties.

  • Patient, caring and resilient.

  • Able to remain calm when situations become challenging.

  • Adaptable and confident working with different ages and needs.

  • Positive, reliable and equipped with a good sense of humour.

Experience in a specialist SEND school or supporting pupils with complex needs would be beneficial.
