Learning Support Assistant – EBSA Specialist Provision
Tiptree (Thurstable Campus), Essex
£100–£125 per day (PAYE)
Full-Time
What if your role wasn’t just about supporting learning—but about helping a young person take their first step back through the school gates?
For pupils experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA), school can feel overwhelming. Anxiety builds, confidence dips, and education can begin to feel out of reach. This role is about gently changing that—through patience, consistency, and genuine care.
If you believe in the power of relationships and understand that small steps can lead to life-changing progress, this could be a truly meaningful opportunity.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist EBSA provision.
This is a calm, nurturing environment designed to help pupils feel safe, regulated, and ready to re-engage with learning at their own pace. You will become a consistent, trusted adult—supporting pupils not just academically, but emotionally too.
Working closely with teachers and a wider multidisciplinary team, you will help break down barriers to attendance, build confidence, and support each child in rediscovering a sense of belonging.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, becoming a consistent and reassuring presence
- Supporting individuals and small groups through personalised learning and interventions
- Delivering bespoke EBSA support, celebrating small wins and gradual progress
- Helping pupils understand and manage anxiety, modelling practical regulation strategies
- Creating a calm, structured, and emotionally safe environment
- Supporting social, emotional, and life skills development
- Acting as an advocate for each pupil, ensuring their voice is heard
- Assisting with lesson planning and adapting resources
- Working collaboratively with families, staff, and external professionals
- Contributing to a reflective, trauma-informed approach
About You
We are looking for someone who is patient, empathetic, and emotionally intelligent.
You will ideally:
- Have experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or EBSA
- Understand the impact of anxiety, trauma, and school avoidance
- Be calm, consistent, and able to build trust over time
- Take a flexible, creative approach to engagement
- Support behaviour in a nurturing, non-judgemental way
- Be reflective and open to learning and development
About the Setting
This specialist provision offers a therapeutic, relationship-led environment where every pupil is supported as an individual.
The focus is not just on academic progress, but on helping young people feel safe again—safe to attend, safe to try, and safe to succeed. Staff work closely together to create a consistent, caring approach where every small success is recognised and celebrated.
Why This Role Is Different
- A highly personalised, relationship-led approach
- A calm, supportive environment tailored to EBSA pupils
- The opportunity to make a visible difference in attendance and confidence
- A strong focus on emotional wellbeing
- A team that genuinely cares about both pupils and each other
