Some children need more than support with their learning.

They need someone who can look beyond behaviour, understand their individual needs and create an environment where they feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

Parker Smith Inclusion is working in partnership with a warm, inclusive and forward-thinking specialist SEND school in Epping that is expanding its team and looking for dedicated Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) and Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs).

The school supports primary-aged pupils between 5 and 11 with a range of additional needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD).

With small class sizes of approximately five pupils, staff have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships, understand each child's needs and provide personalised support that helps them make progress academically, socially and emotionally.

One of the school's standout features is its strong outdoor learning ethos, including an established Forest School programme. Staff are encouraged to take learning beyond the classroom, helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and emotional regulation through practical, nature-based activities. Full training and ongoing support are provided.

The Role

You'll work closely with teachers and the wider specialist team to create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment where pupils can develop at their own pace.

Depending on your experience and the position, responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual learning and developmental needs.

  • Supporting teachers to deliver engaging, accessible and personalised lessons.

  • Helping pupils develop communication, confidence, independence and social skills.

  • Using positive, nurturing approaches to support behaviour and emotional regulation.

  • Taking an active role in Forest School sessions and outdoor learning activities.

  • Building trusting relationships with pupils who may find traditional classroom environments challenging.

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to provide consistent support.

  • Supporting targeted interventions and monitoring pupil progress.

  • For HLTAs, leading small-group interventions and covering lessons where appropriate.

Who Would Suit This Role?

The school is looking for people who understand that every child is different and who are willing to adapt their approach to help pupils succeed.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly SEMH, ASC, ADHD or SLD.

  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach, with strong relationship-building skills.

  • Confidence supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behavioural needs.

  • A flexible, proactive attitude and the ability to respond to changing situations.

  • An interest in outdoor learning and a willingness to participate in Forest School activities.

  • A genuine commitment to professional development and improving outcomes for pupils.

For HLTA positions, relevant experience or HLTA status is desirable.

What's on Offer?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a school that invests in its staff and recognises the importance of developing a knowledgeable, confident and consistent team.

You'll benefit from:

  • Full-time, term-time-only working, Monday to Friday.

  • Competitive PAYE pay of £93–£130 per day, depending on experience.

  • Small class sizes of approximately five pupils.

  • Extensive training and continuing professional development (CPD).

  • Forest School training and opportunities to develop outdoor learning skills.

  • SEND and behaviour-focused qualifications.

  • Apprenticeships and accredited training courses.

  • Clear opportunities for career progression.

  • A supportive, therapeutic and collaborative working environment.

  • Long-term, temp-to-perm and permanent opportunities.
