Location: Harlow, Essex
Salary: M1–M6, paid to scale depending on experience
Contract: Permanent or Temp-to-Perm
Start Date: September 2026
Working Pattern: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, Term Time Only
Some young people need a different approach to education to help them recognise their potential. They need a teacher who can build trust, make learning engaging and look beyond behaviour to understand what each pupil needs to succeed.
Parker Smith Inclusion is proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive specialist SEMH school in Harlow, supporting secondary-aged pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.
The school is looking for a passionate and adaptable Maths Teacher to join its team, delivering Mathematics across Key Stages 3 and 4. This is an opportunity to teach small classes, develop meaningful relationships with pupils and help young people rebuild their confidence in education.
Available on a permanent or temp-to-perm basis, this role would suit a teacher looking for a rewarding long-term opportunity within a supportive specialist setting.
The Role
As a Maths Teacher, you'll deliver engaging and accessible lessons to small groups of typically 6–10 pupils, adapting your teaching to meet a range of abilities and individual learning needs.
You'll have the opportunity to make Mathematics relevant, build pupils' confidence and help them develop the skills they need for future education, employment and everyday life.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated Maths lessons across KS3 and KS4.
- Adapting teaching methods and resources to meet pupils' individual learning needs.
- Building positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and re-engagement with learning.
- Creating a structured and supportive classroom where pupils feel safe, respected and ready to learn.
- Using positive, trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to support behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Working closely with Teaching Assistants and colleagues to provide consistent, individualised support.
- Monitoring pupil progress and celebrating academic achievements alongside personal development.
- Contributing to a second subject area, such as Science, PE or the Arts, depending on your experience and interests.
- Supporting the school's continued development and contributing to its positive learning culture.
About the School
This specialist SEMH school understands that successful education starts with strong relationships, consistency and an environment where pupils feel understood.
The school offers:
- Small class sizes: Typically 6–10 pupils, allowing for more personalised teaching and support.
- A therapeutic approach: A focus on understanding behaviour, emotional wellbeing and the barriers pupils face.
- A collaborative team: Strong relationships between teachers, Teaching Assistants and the wider school team.
- Supportive leadership: A commitment to staff wellbeing, professional development and continuous improvement.
- Long-term opportunities: The school is expanding and relocated to a brand-new, purpose-built site in September 2026, creating opportunities to contribute to its next stage of development.
This is an exciting time to join a growing provision where staff can help shape the school's future while developing their own careers.
About You
We're looking for a Maths Teacher who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experience teaching Mathematics at secondary level across KS3 and KS4.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach to classroom management.
- The ability to build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.
- A genuine interest in inclusive education and supporting pupils with SEMH needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Experience within a specialist SEMH school or alternative provision (desirable, but not essential).
- A second subject specialism, such as Science, PE or Art (advantageous, but not essential).
You don't necessarily need previous experience in a specialist setting. If you're an experienced mainstream teacher considering a move into SEND, the right attitude, adaptability and willingness to develop your practice are just as important.
Above all, you'll understand that progress isn't always linear. You'll be someone who can remain consistent through challenging moments, recognise the small wins and help pupils see that they are capable of more than they might believe.
