You know how to teach Maths well. You also know that teaching Maths well in a specialist SEND setting asks something different of you than a standard classroom does. The lesson plan you prepared on Sunday might need to be reconsidered by Tuesday morning. A pupil who engaged brilliantly last week might need a completely different approach today. You read the room, you adjust, and you do it without losing the thread of what you are trying to teach. If that describes how you already work, this role is worth your attention.

Wherever you are currently teaching, you are probably so busy that you don't have much time to think about your own career. You should. Because a Teacher who is genuinely skilled at reaching young people with complex needs deserves a setting that is built to support that work properly, not one where you are managing it alone.

This is a permanent Maths Teacher position at an independent specialist day school in Wandsworth, South West London. The school supports pupils aged 7 to 16 with Autism and associated conditions. Many have previously been unable to access education in a mainstream or specialist setting. All hold an EHCP, though some may not yet have a formal diagnosis. Classes are small, the adult-to-pupil ratio is high, and the approach is relational and therapeutic throughout the school day.

In practice, that means your role goes beyond curriculum delivery. You will plan and teach personalised Maths lessons, assess progress, and adapt your approach continuously to meet each pupil where they are. You will support pupils with emotional regulation and, where needed, personal care, always with dignity and safeguarding at the centre. You will work closely with colleagues, therapists, and families as part of a genuinely collaborative team.

This school is built on the belief that pupils who have struggled elsewhere can and do make progress when the environment is right, and the adults around them understand what they need. Your job is to be one of those adults for Maths.

To be considered, you will need:

  • QTS and experience working with children with SEND or ASC
  • Strong classroom management and the ability to adapt your teaching quickly
  • Confidence supporting pupils whose behaviour may challenge
  • A commitment to personal care where required
  • A SEND qualification is desirable but not essential

Teachers coming from mainstream settings with relevant SEN experience are welcome to apply.

This school is accessible from Clapham, Tooting, Balham, Wimbledon, Battersea, and Vauxhall.
