Sometimes, a young person doesn't need a bigger classroom. They need more time, the right approach and someone who believes they can do it.

Parker Smith Inclusion is proud to be working in partnership with a specialist SEMH school in Harlow, supporting young people across both primary and secondary age groups.

The school is looking for an experienced and passionate Maths Tutor to provide one-to-one and/or small-group support for pupils who may have struggled within a traditional classroom environment.

This is an in-person role, working for approximately three hours each day, with the opportunity to make a genuine difference to pupils' confidence, engagement and progress in Maths.

The Role

As a Maths Tutor, you will work with pupils across primary and secondary levels, adapting your approach to suit their individual needs and abilities.

You will:

  • Deliver engaging and accessible Maths tuition
  • Support pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis
  • Teach Maths across primary and secondary levels
  • Assess individual strengths and areas for development
  • Adapt lessons to suit different learning styles and abilities
  • Help pupils build confidence and develop a more positive attitude towards Maths
  • Support pupils who may have SEMH needs, anxiety or barriers to learning
  • Break down more complex mathematical concepts into manageable steps
  • Track progress and celebrate individual achievements
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils

Higher-Level Maths Experience Essential

The school is looking for someone who is confident teaching higher-level Maths and can support pupils beyond basic numeracy.

You should be comfortable explaining more challenging mathematical concepts and adapting your teaching to different academic levels.

You may be an experienced Maths Teacher, Tutor, Lecturer, HLTA or another education professional with a strong Maths background.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Confident teaching Maths to a high level
  • Patient, calm and encouraging
  • Able to build genuine relationships with young people
  • Comfortable supporting pupils with SEMH needs
  • Flexible in their approach to teaching and learning
  • Able to make Maths engaging and accessible
  • Resilient and consistent
  • Passionate about helping young people achieve their potential

Experience working within SEMH, SEND, alternative provision or specialist education would be highly beneficial.

Most importantly, you need to be someone who can look beyond a pupil's behaviour or previous experiences with education and help them recognise what they're capable of.

Why This Role?

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Maths specialist who wants to move away from large classes and have a more personalised impact on young people.

With just three hours of tuition per day, you'll have the opportunity to focus on quality rather than quantity — building relationships, identifying gaps and helping pupils make meaningful progress.

For some young people, getting back on track academically starts with someone taking the time to understand how they learn.

That's where you come in.

If you're a Maths specialist who wants to use your subject knowledge to make a genuine difference to young people who may have found mainstream education challenging, Parker Smith Inclusion would love to hear from you.
