Medical & Attendance Officer - Specialist Education
Barnet, North London | £110–£125 per day PAYE | Full-time
A school’s medical and attendance provision can have a direct impact on whether a pupil feels safe, supported and able to access education consistently.
Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting a Medical & Attendance Officer for a specialist education setting in Barnet.
This is a varied role combining pupil welfare, first aid and medical administration with attendance monitoring and family liaison. It would suit someone who is organised, calm under pressure and confident dealing sensitively with pupils, families and school staff.
What will the role involve?
You will take responsibility for a mixture of medical, welfare and attendance-related duties across the school day.
Responsibilities may include:
-
Responding to pupils who become unwell or require first aid
-
Managing and maintaining medical records
-
Supporting the administration of medication in line with school procedures
-
Ensuring medical information is accurate and up to date
-
Liaising with parents and carers regarding pupil health and welfare
-
Monitoring pupil attendance
-
Following up unexplained or concerning absences
-
Maintaining accurate attendance records
-
Supporting communication with families around attendance
-
Working closely with pastoral, safeguarding and senior staff
-
Identifying patterns that may require further attention or escalation
-
Supporting pupils to access education consistently and safely
Who are we looking for?
Essential:
-
Strong administrative and organisational skills
-
Confidence communicating with parents, carers and professionals
-
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
-
Calm and professional approach
-
Strong attention to detail
-
Confidence using school or office-based systems
-
Ability to prioritise when several issues arise at once
Desirable experience
We would particularly like to hear from candidates with experience in:
-
School medical or welfare roles
-
Attendance administration
-
Pastoral support
-
School administration
-
First aid
-
SEND or specialist education
-
Healthcare administration
-
Safeguarding-related environments
Previous experience within a school would be highly valuable, particularly where you have worked with attendance, pupil welfare or medical information.
Why consider this role?
This is not simply an office-based administrative position.
You will often be one of the first people involved when a pupil is unwell, struggling to attend or when a family needs support navigating an issue affecting school.
The role requires empathy and good judgement alongside strong administration.
For someone who enjoys being organised but also wants their work to have a direct impact on pupils, it offers an interesting balance of responsibility.
