Mental Health Teaching Assistant 

📍 Location: Barnet, North London
💷 Pay: £90–£110 per day (PAYE, depending on experience)
🕘 Hours: Full time | Term time only

We are recruiting a Mental Health Teaching Assistant to support children and young people within specialist SEMH settings across the Barnet area.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. The settings provide a nurturing and therapeutic approach to education, focusing on emotional regulation, positive relationships and personalised learning. Some pupils may also present with additional needs such as Autism or ADHD.


The Role

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs in the classroom and through targeted interventions

  • Help young people manage emotions, behaviour and engagement with learning

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may display dysregulated behaviour

  • Support emotional regulation, social skills and confidence

  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and wider support staff to provide consistent support


Who We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN or behavioural needs (education, care, youth work or similar)

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach

  • Confidence supporting pupils with complex emotional and mental health needs

  • A genuine desire to make a positive difference

  • Ability to work well as part of a team

This role is particularly suitable for Psychology or Mental Health graduates, Behaviour Mentors, Youth Workers, or those seeking hands-on experience within SEMH settings.
