We're working with an outstanding arts specialist school in Islington to recruit a creative and inspiring Music & Digital Technology Tutor to join their team every Friday from September.
This is a unique opportunity for someone with a background in music production, music technology, youth work, creative arts or education who believes music can be a powerful tool for confidence, emotional wellbeing and personal growth.
Working with young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, you'll use music production and digital technology to help students express themselves, build positive relationships and develop valuable creative and vocational skills.

The Role
Every Friday, you'll transform the music studio into a creative, safe and engaging learning environment where students can explore music without fear of failure.
You'll deliver practical, project-based sessions that encourage creativity, collaboration and self-expression through beat-making, lyric writing, recording, podcasting and digital music production.
Many of the young people you'll support have experienced disrupted education or found traditional classroom learning difficult. Music often becomes the bridge that helps them rebuild confidence, regulate emotions and rediscover their potential.
You'll also support learners in working towards accessible creative qualifications, ensuring every student has the opportunity to experience success.
Your Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Music Technology lessons tailored to students with SEMH needs.
- Teach digital music production using platforms such as GarageBand, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, BandLab or similar software.
- Deliver practical projects including beat-making, songwriting, podcasting, recording and music production.
- Adapt learning to meet individual emotional, sensory and educational needs.
- Use music as a vehicle for emotional regulation, confidence building and creative expression.
- Create an inclusive, calm and supportive studio environment where students feel safe to take creative risks.
- Support students working towards vocational music qualifications through practical, portfolio-based learning.
- Maintain music technology equipment including laptops, MIDI controllers, microphones, iPads and recording equipment.
- Apply positive behaviour support and trauma-informed approaches to promote engagement and emotional wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with school staff to celebrate student progress and support positive outcomes.
We're Looking For Someone Who
- Has experience working with young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour.
- Has a strong background in music production, music technology or digital audio.
- Is confident using Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as GarageBand, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, BandLab or similar.
- Has experience teaching, tutoring, coaching or mentoring young people.
- Understands how creativity and music can support emotional regulation, wellbeing and engagement.
- Has knowledge of trauma-informed practice, neurodiversity and supporting young people with additional needs.
- Holds a degree or qualification in Music Technology, Music Production, Creative Arts, Youth Work or a related subject (desirable).
- Has teaching qualifications such as QTS or QTLS (welcome but not essential).
- Is patient, adaptable and passionate about helping young people discover their strengths.
