Are you passionate about music and making a real difference in young people’s lives? We are seeking a dedicated and confident Music Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH Secondary School supporting boys with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, alongside additional SEND profiles.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in music, musical arts, music technology, or studio production to support students in one of their favourite and most engaging subjects.

The Role:

As a Music Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the Music Leader to deliver engaging, creative and supportive lessons that inspire students and build confidence through music.

You will:

  • Support the Music Leader during lessons, interventions and practical sessions

  • Encourage and motivate students to engage positively with music activities

  • Assist with music technology, recording equipment, studio sessions and production software

  • Help students develop practical skills in performance, songwriting, beat-making and composition

  • Build positive relationships with students with SEMH and SEND needs

  • Support behaviour management using calm, consistent and relational approaches

  • Create a safe, encouraging and structured learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A strong background in music, performing arts, music production or musical education

  • Experience using music technology, recording software, or studio equipment

  • Confidence supporting young people in practical music sessions

  • Degree within Music, Musical Theatre, Drama, Arts (desired)

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour (desirable)

  • Excellent communication skills and resilience

  • A calm, patient and positive attitude

  • Passion for helping students succeed through creative learning opportunities
